Go Fish
For this game, you will need to purchase inexpensive toys and/or candy to give as "fish". You can construct a simple fishing pond out of three sides of a cardboard box. It should be just tall enough so that you can sit down or squat down behind it. Make sure you decorate it with paints or markers by coloring waves and fish on the sides. You can construct a fishing pole out of a small stick with some yarn, string, or fishing line tied to the end. At the end of the line, attach a clothespin. Let your party guests go fishing by having them cast their lines over the top of the "pond". You will be hiding behind it, and you can attach a "fish", which will be candy or a toy to the clothespin. Tug on the line to let your little fisherman know that he has caught a fish.
Toy Walk
This game is very similar to a cake walk. Instead of cakes as prizes, you can give inexpensive toys. You will need to mark squares or circles with numbers or animal pictures and place these on the floor. Instruct the children that they should continue to walk until the music stops. You can then pull a number out of a jar or hat and call it out. The winning number gets a prize. Since many toddlers don't know how to recognize numbers, however, you can put animal characters on the floor markers instead. Be sure you play long enough so that every guest wins!
Ball Throw
You can buy inexpensive rings or make your own. Purchase a couple of small balls and line the children up. If you are doing this outside, you might want to stick the rings into a bale of hay for more stability. Let the children try to throw the balls through the rings. When they do, give them a prize.
Party Maze
Toddlers love this game! Try to find several, good-sized boxes. You will need to turn the boxes on their sides and cut off their tops and bottoms. Once you've done this, connect the boxes with sturdy tape, and decorate the outsides of the boxes to match the theme of your party. Have the box maze snake around the room. You can even make several offshoot hallways by cutting some of the sides of boxes so the children can go in several directions. They'll love crawling through the maze!
Toddler Birthday Party Games
What child doesn't love a pinata? You can typically find pinatas at party supply stores and even some department stores. All you'll need to do is fill the pinata with toys and find a stick that each child can use to hit the pinata. Blindfold the child, and let him swing away! Make sure you have lots of supervision, however, so that the child doesn't accidentally hit another child.
Pool Party
You don't have to have an expensive pool to have a pool party. In fact, toddlers love splash pools. Invite your toddler's birthday party guests to a pool party. Provide small squirt guns for the children to use. Set out several small pools for them to splash in. You can even set up a small slip-and-slide for them to slide on.
Ball Pit
You can make your own ball pit for children to jump in, and they'll love it! Simple purchase a blow up pool or two and fill them with balls. How easy is that?
